Description
Rich in organic matter, our Compost is a dark, crumbly growing medium made up of decomposed plant material, giving gardens a valuable boost of nutrients and improved soil structure. Its deep brown colour and fine, well-broken-down texture make it easy to work into soil or use directly for planting, providing an excellent foundation for healthy plant growth across the garden.
One of its main uses is as a soil improver, where digging compost into existing beds and borders adds essential organic matter, improving structure, water retention, and nutrient content in both light, free-draining soils and heavier clay ground. It’s equally valuable when planting, whether adding a generous amount to the base of a planting hole for trees, shrubs, and perennials, or mixing it through the top layer of soil in new borders to give plants the best possible start.
Compost is also widely used as a mulch, spread across the surface of beds and borders to help retain soil moisture, suppress weed growth, and gradually feed the soil below as it continues to break down over time. For containers and raised beds, it works well mixed with topsoil to create a nutrient-rich growing medium, supporting stronger root development and healthier, more productive plants.
Beyond ornamental planting, compost is a great choice for vegetable patches and fruit growing areas, where its high organic content helps support the heavier nutrient demands of edible crops throughout the growing season. As a natural product, please expect some variation in colour, texture, and consistency between batches.
